Lucky Number Slevin

Yeah, this movie looks awesome.

Lucky Number Slevin stars blockbuster-action-star Bruce Willis as assassin Mr. Goodkat. The trailer is cool enough to stand on its own, it's just an added bonus for this to be a real movie. I think it will have the feel of Snatch or Lock, Stock... But wait, there's a catch. Who's directing this thing? Paul McGuigan? Isn't he the guy that made Wicker Park and The Reckoning? Granted, Peter Jackson had made no good movies before LOTR (unless you think The Frighteners counts as good) so this isn't doomed... but it could prove to be a good concept with poor execution. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Now wait a second on Peter Jackson.

Heavenly Creatures was a critical arthouse hit, and Brain Dead is one of the better pure gore movies of the last decade.

Neither one of those is exactly a "great" movie but it's inaccurate to pretend that Peter Jackson just came out of nowhere, never having done anything at all worth while.

I agree. The trailer looks good. We shall see. =)

What's wrong with Josh Hartnet and Lucy Liu? No, this is not a joke, what's wrong with them? Liu was in one of my favorite flicks last year, Domino, and she was sweet in Kill Bill volumes. 1 and 2. Lets not forget that awsome western Shanghai Noon! Hartnet showed up as a true actor in Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down, and gave a short, but steller performance in last years Sin City. We should be much more concerned with the movie as a whole, the writer, producers, and director. If it's a well writen script with a good director, than we can be assured that these actors can trully act. So lets hope this ones as good as it's preview!

He did come out of nowhere Nathan! I know everyone gets his start somewhere, but to move from your "best" film being "one of the better pure gore movies of the last decade" to making The Lord of the Rings is a HUGE leap (no matter how good it might be).

And I think Nate is right, though those actors may have been in some lame roles, I think their skill is largely affected by the director's. As Michael said "We shall see."

i agree that lucy lui and josh hartnet can both do good work - in fact neither one of them has really done all that much horrible work that i can think of off the top of my head (although one or two josh hartnet movies do come to mind) - so i don't know why nate even needs to defend them . . . my question is why does kim hate them so much? most people are just totally ready to bash on famous pretty faces . . . like tom cruise - i know he's a weirdo scientologist, but he's been doing steller work for a decade now, and people still get horribly disappointed when they hear that tom cruise is staring in a movie. what gives?

Ben, what you said was that "Peter Jackson made no good movies" before LoTR, and that's just not true . . . maybe he did come out of nowhere in that not many people had heard of him, but that doesn't make his pre-lotr work automatically bad - my point was that regardless of popularity, he had made at least two arguably good movies

You're right Nathan, I was saying "good" movies and meaning "box-office successes". I do think there are a lot of directors (and actors and musicians...etc) out there who have done some great work and have not yet received recognition. I just thought it was amazing that Peter Jackson, the gore film director, "good" though the gore film may be, made LOTR!
